Holidaying in Filey - Days Three and Four

*First of all let me apologise for the lateness of this post. I thought I'd scheduled them for the appropriate days but hadn't actually! So instead I've just put both posts into one.

We've had some seeerious freak weather today..the day actually started off nicely but didn't last very long. It wasn't particularly warm but the sky was blue and it wasn't too windy so we all decided to go for a morning stroll to Hunmanby Gap, the beach we went to on the very first day.

The girls were running about trying to fly the kite and just generally having a whale of a time, however within less than ten minutes of being on the beach it started hailing like you wouldn't believe. I've never seen hail stones so big! Luckily I managed to get the above beach snaps so we have something to show for the day but it is a shame as I'd like to have stayed for longer, as would the girls.

Not wanting to get drenched we retreated to the nearest greasy spoon and it was fry ups all round! We ordered lily a milkshake and it came in a pint glass.. I thought there'd be no way she'd manage it all but she did! In quite shocking speed too haha.

We went back to our cottage after the food as the weather wasn't improving much and the girls each had a nap. In fact Lily napped for so long that by the time she woke it was more or less tea time. After a quick Google of the nearest restaurant we found one called The Honeypot Inn and oh my god it was fantastic, I cant rave about it enough! The pub itself was rustic and beautiful with large open fires and welcoming staff. Tucked away in the side section of the pub was a massive room with a huge play area which was ideal for the girls to burn off some energy whilst we waited for our food. And the food...oh the food..I don't think my words can do it justice! For a start there was an amazing vegetarian range which is so refreshing to see as most pubs only have the standard chips and veggie burgers at best. I went for the spinach and feta wellington and it was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever tasted. Even the side salad was absolutely gorgeous and the portions were really generous. If anyone's ever looking for somewhere to eat in Filey I would seriously reccommend it. I only wish we'd found it sooner so we could have eaten there every night haha!

And so we have our last day at Filey! The day started the same as all the others really, except that check out was at ten and there was plenty of packing to do all round. Whilst everyone was rushing around loading up the cars myself & James decided to take Lily to the swimming pool to keep her out of the way and so she can have one last swim (...and I can have one last sauna!)

After swimming we met the rest of James' fam in the on-site cafe and we all had drinks and treats. Lily and me shared a lemon meringue pie which was beaut! At this point Lily seemed rather tired so she had some quiet time on Auntie Laura's knee whilst we all drank up.

After our drinks we headed up to the main road near our cottage as the Tour De Yorkshire cyclists were due to cycle past. Lily was supposed to be napping in the pram at this point but she was far too excited by the crowds of people and many police cars so I got her out so she could look too!

By this time it was time to start the journey home. It only took us one and a half hours on the way but we knew it would take longer because of the Tour De Yorkshire road closures. We were right...it took a million times longer and Lily was a total nightmare in the car so we had to stop and let her stretch her legs mid journey.

We finally arrived home in one piece and my mum was waiting for us with coffee and cake, bless her! We had the most amazing time, it's been one of those holiday I'll always remember and frankly I'm already counting down the days till we go again next year.
