Weekend Watch - Whitby - Our Little Cottage Getaway

It's fairly safe to say that this weekend was not my usual weekend, oh no! It was spent in the gorgeous Whitby, child free and with the female side of my family only. A much needed girls break, that came at exactly the right time for me.

It was only four days. Or just two full ones technically but being away from the kids for that amount of time was strange. Not necessarily good or bad strange. Maybe a bit of both actually. It was incredibly motivating getting to put myself first for a change though and I felt really free.
Going out for walks by myself when I wanted, for the amount of time that I wanted. Eating whenever I felt like it,without having to look over my shoulder for the grabby hands of my bottomless pit forever hungry 15 month old. Chatting on Whatsapp and scrolling through Instagram without feeling conscious of the amount of time I was spending not giving the kids my full attention. Little things that felt like such luxuries.

At the same time I missed them like hell. I tried to step back and give them all space and not have James feel like I was checking up on him constantly. But I was more often than not wondering what they were doing and whether they were all okay. Especially when J rang to say Lily was poorly, the guilt started creeping back in that I wasn't there to comfort her. But J had it covered, and knowing that really did help me to relax and have a good time.

The cottage in Whitby was gorgeous. Set over four floors, really ancient with so much character. (Think creepy haunted house!) But also really beautiful with wooden flooring, exposed beams and brick work. I wish I'd taken more photos of the inside of the cottage actually, but you can find it here on Yorkshire Coastal Cottages for anyone who might be interested.

We spent our days walking down by the beach front, exploring the market town and Abbeys. A particular highlight was Falling Foss Waterfall and Tea room. A gorgeous cafe/restaurant in the middle of a beautiful enchanted style wood. Such a good find and would reeeally recommend to anyone in the area.

The evenings were spent eating good food, having long bubble baths, chatting and playing tacky murder mystery games.

It's a weekend I'll remember for a very long time.

Blog posts have been thin on the ground this week (read:non existent) for the sheer fact that I'm struggling to get my head back in to it after being away. I'll get there, though! Annoyingly I didn't bring my good camera to Whitby, only my much older smaller one for ease and so the photos aren't very good. But they give you an idea of what the weekend was like at least. I also vlogged which I intend to put up in 3 parts over the next week as I got so much footage! (You can find my channel here

Next weekend I'm back to the seaside for another long weekend. Except this time I'm taking the kids and my parents and we're replacing cottage for caravan. Whilst Whitby was relaxing in a way that was good for the soul I have a feeling Scarborough will be hectic and manic. But in the best possible way I'm sure. & I can't wait to see the happiness on the kids faces whilst we're out there.
