Slimming World journey so far | Update 1

I'm going to be honest here and say I have a long drawn out love/hate relationship with Slimming World, and have done for a while now. I've made no less than 5 attempts at starting Slimming World since having Archer and have fallen flat on my ass with it every single time.

I've finally had enough of glancing in the mirror then having to furiously look away. Honestly I've been living in a forced bubble of oversized winter jumpers the past few months (or well, since Archer was born really) but Summer has begun and I can't stay in these jumpers forever - it's slowly killing me!
As I'm now three weeks in to Slimming World, the longest I've managed in my attempts this year, I finally feel like I'm determined enough that I'm not going to go cold turkey and that I can therefore confidentially sit down and start writing about my journey.
I know that many people don't feel comfortable in sharing numbers when they do their slimming world updates, tending to just focus on food diaries, but I personally look for these figures just as much as the meal plans themselves when reading other peoples journeys. I like to know peoples starting weights so I can have a better idea of how far they've come and therefore I will be sharing my own starting weight and losses/gains in lbs as I go along.

Before I start I have to say that I don't believe that the size I am now is in any way 'large.' So when I reveal my weight and any other stats in these blog posts I dont want anyone to feel offended that I'm claiming it's not an acceptable weight  because that's not the case at all. It's all relative. It all depends on your body type, shape and what you're comfortable with. You know your own body type and what your natural size and weight is so don't let anyone tell you what's right or wrong for YOU.

So lets go right back to the very start of my Slimming World journey back in 2013.
I started when Lily was about six months old after seeing how much success my cousin was having with it. Granted I weighed a lot more back in 2012/13 than I do now. I put on a LOT of weight during my pregnancy with Lily - I always seem to during pregnancy, and in my first pregnancy naive-ity I thought it was all baby and placenta which obviously wasn't the case. When it didn't just 'drop off' like I was expecting I started looking into weight loss options. I tried a green juice diet when Lily was about 6 months old and absolutely hated it, it just wasn't for me. I also tried Gillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - again not for me. I genuinely think I'm allergic to exercise haha and this dvd just about finished me off. I think I made it to day 9!

So on to SW I went. My starting weight in 2013 was 170lbs (12 stone 2) and I did SW for just over a year having little breaks from it now and then. I was surprised by how easy I found it, I genuinely enjoyed it and eating SW foods became habit after a few months - it didn't feel like dieting at all.

12ish months after starting I'd lost 3 stone 10lbs and was weighing 120lbs (8 stone 6) which is my natural weight (I seem to hover between 8lbs 6 and 9 stone) so I was finally back to my goal. I more or less maintained for the next couple of years and so my starting weight come summer 2015 when I became pregnant with Arch was 8lb 10.

I put on 3 stone during Archers pregnancy, only a stone less than with Lily's, and I dropped a stone of it after having him (he was a BIG baby!) leaving me at 10 stone 10 or there abouts. I lost a few pounds in the last year thanks to a combo of breastfeeding and chasing two children around and so my starting weight with Slimming World this time around was 10 stone 6. 3 weeks in and I've dropped 6lbs and I'm currently 10 stone exactly.

So to sum up -

As I'm currently at 10 stone I have a stone and a half left to lose.  I'm hoping if I'm determined and stick to it I can be back to my pre Archer weight again by the end of Autumn. But I'm well aware of how much more difficult it will be this time around with two children to run around after. I'm thinking it might all be in the meal prep this time around.

I'll be updating fortnightly until I hit my target. I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to do it - whether it be a food diary or just an overall view of how the weeks eating has gone. And then of course the weekly weigh in results. Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck! I think it will help that you've been upfront with the figures around weight and that's a brace step. Look forward to updates x

  6. We have around the same natural weight. I've had three kids and it's been a lot harder the third time round to lose the weight. I have the motivation of our wedding and am currently 9 stone after 7.5 months post partum. I'm so untoned though, so that's my focus now. I've never been on slimming world but know so many who rate it, it sounds great! x

  7. I am a size 14. Used to be a 10 pre kids, I have tried slimming and exercise but can never sustain it, shame really because I can lose the weight easily but my big struggle is food. I like my food too much and I hate to see waste so I am always hoovering up from the kids plates. It's tough, you have done really well but honestly, I would never have said you need to lose weight in the first place.
    What exercise are you doing?

    1. I'm the same - food is my big weakness! I often just eat off the kids plate too which is a habit I need to break if I want to stick at this. At the moment the only exercise I'm doing is the nursery run 😂

  8. I started slimming world before Christmas and lost a stone. However I have lost all motivation this year as I was quite poorly, so I need to get back on it. Kaz

    1. It can be really hard getting back in to it can't it. I found it way harder the second, third, fourth time etc than I did doing it for the very first time. I Hope you manage it but your health is the most important thing :) xx

  9. That's great, well done. Weight is totally about what is right for you. I end up losing weight in pregnancy and both times I have weighed less a month after giving birth than before I got pregnant. It's the following year that I seem to pile it all on. I'm really unhappy with how I look right now, and my clothes are too big, but I've really been struggling with motivation. Plus I want to get pregnant again soon and while I know it would be easier on my body if I was thinner to start off I've just can't manage it.

    1. I think that initial motivation is the hardest bit. It can be so hard to find but once you've done the first few weeks it becomes SO much easier xx
